Moles are growths on the skin that are composed of cells that produce pigment, which is why most moles are dark instead of the color of your skin. Moles can appear nearly anywhere on your body and can sometimes be brown, black or blue. While the vast majority of moles are completely harmless, a lot of people still decide to get them removed for aesthetic purposes if they are causing them to feel self-conscious.
A mole removal procedure typically begins with a meticulous cleaning of the area. Once the mole has been properly cleaned, it may be numbed using a local anesthetic. It may take approximately 10 minutes for the area to become completely numb. Once numbness occurs, the medical professional starts the mole removal process.
Most moles can be easily removed via a quick excision. A special instrument is used to do this. A bandage may be placed on the area afterwards. If the mole is in a sensitive area, then more skin may be removed during the procedure. The technique used in a mole removal procedure depends on the unique situation.

Most of our patients are able to go home immediately after the mole removal procedure is complete. You’ll want to take proper care of the treated area at home to ensure proper healing. It is usually recommended that you clean the area once or twice a day with water and diluted hydrogen peroxide. You may then apply Vaseline to the clean area before covering it with a bandage. It is best for this process to be repeated every day until the treated area has completely healed.
It is vitally important that you keep a bandage on the area throughout the day. Removing the bandage when not cleaning the wound may slow down the healing process. You will also want to avoid using aspirin, ibuprofen and blood thinners until you are fully healed.
There is no reason to live with a mole just because it has grown on your body. If you are unhappy with your appearance, then take the small step to change it. One short appointment is often all it takes to remove your mole and provide you with the aesthetic appearance you have been dreaming about for years.
